“Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” Psalm 37:4
In my life right now I am so tangled up in school, work and church that I really wouldn’t say I’m looking for a relationship. The only relationship I am focused on currently is my relationship with God. However I can admit that I often find myself thinking towards the future of having a family- a husband, kids (and of course a puppy!). In fact, I often use those thoughts as motivation to do well in school, save money, make healthy choices and so on.
With that being said, I try to incorporate my future spouse and family into my prayer time. I want to be intentional about my future and be sure that I am preparing myself for that stage of my life. Even though I am single right now, I know that God knows that desire in my heart and that he is orchestrating everything in my favor. Right now, I rest assured that God is taking this time to prepare my future husband and I for a long, fulfilling life of serving Him together.
I want to encourage you all to start praying for your future husband or wife if you are single. It may seem a little weird the first time, but it will be so rewarding. Not only that, but it gives you another sweet opportunity to talk with God about your future and grow closer to Him.
First I want to thank you, Lord. You know the desires of my heart and you never fail to fulfill your promises. In Psalm 37:4, your word tells us to take delight in you and you will give us the desires of our heart. Thank you for all of the desires of my heart that you have already blessed me with, God, and thank you for the ones you are sending me in the future. I will love, honor and glorify you forever and ever.
God, I pray that all men and women with a longing for marriage and companionship will be comforted by you and engulfed in your love which is more than enough for us. I ask that you help us to embrace the perfect love of Jesus Christ and that our hearts will overflow with your joy. In this time, Lord, leave no empty space in our hearts for loneliness and remind us that you are with us.
Thank you for marriage, Lord. Not yet have I experienced marriage in my own life, but I know that it is going to be one of the most significant blessings you give me in my time here. In his time, Lord, I want to pray for my future husband. I know you are making us both ready for the beautiful future we will have. I know that your timing is perfect. You love me too much to allow me to come into that relationship in any other timing than your own. Please help me to be patient and have discernment when the time comes.
Father, I pray that my future spouse is following you closely and growing knowledgeable in your word. I pray that he will be faithful, patient, understanding, kind, responsible, truthful, attentive and dependable. Father, please help him avoid temptation and be free from the chains of sin in Jesus name. Help him to be slow to anger but quick to listen. I pray that he will have a strong foundation in your love, Lord. Please help him grow to be a respectful and mature man of God.
Above all, Father God, I pray that he is growing near to you right now. Please guide him down the righteous path and help him make fruitful and wise decisions. I desire a man who always puts You first and stands firm in your promises. Now I lift him up to you, Lord.
I know that you are preparing a man who will truly love and cherish me. Protect him in this time of waiting from harmful relationships and lies from the enemy. Help us both to faithfully guard our hearts.
In Jesus mighty name I pray. Amen.
Right now, I just want to stay focused on God and delight in Him. When the time comes, I will be ready to nurture and grow the relationship God entrusts to me. Praying for my future spouse really warms my heart. I know God is working on us both right now to equip us for a loving marriage.
